DNI Board Structure Explained
DNI was incorporated in August of 1988, with three Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI) board members as the original incorporators. It has an 11-member board of directors of whom two are non-voting members, with a majority of the board (six) being chosen by the DSNI board and others appointed, one each, by the Roxbury Neighborhood Council, the Boston City Councilor for the 7th District and the Mayor's Office; the two nonvoting members are appointed by the State Senator (2nd Suffolk) and the State Representative (5th Suffolk). Residents run for the DSNI board and then request to become one of the six appointed seats to the DNI board which includes a DNI leaseholder. The board seats breakdown as follows:

How Do I Become a DNI Board Member?
A 34-member Board of Directors governs the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative. Community-wide board elections are held every two years at the DSNI Annual Meeting. To become a voting member of DSNI you must be a resident of the neighborhood or represent a business, church or organization in the neighborhood and then sign up as a member. After the residents of the Dudley community elect the DSNI Board of Directors then the DSNI board appoints members and a leaseholder to the DNI Board.
